Marcus in 2040 (Part 1)

Marcus was an intelligent grade 5 kid with two brilliant inventors for parents. His parents, Mr and Mrs Raven, were the people who invented the machine which could take people either to the past or future. On the last day of school, in class-

"Attention, everyone. You should all write an essay about how you think the world will be in 2040 as this summer's homework," the Teacher said.

"Yes, mam."

"Mommy! Mommy!" Marcus called after he came home. He barged into the kitchen to find his mother making tea." Our Teacher told us to write an essay about life in 2040," he explained breathlessly." Can I use the time machine for this?"

"No ", his mother said sternly, "There was a message in the group about it. It said what you think the world will be like in 2040, different from how it'll be. So there's no need for you to go in the time machine."

"But mom! I've been waiting to go in it. This is  the perfect opportunity."

His mother sighed."Ask your dad."

Marcus asked his dad when he returned from work, and Marcus's mother was taken aback by his reaction.

"Of course, you can!" he said, "You are going to be the first person to go in it. Oh my god, I'm so excited for you!"

"But it'll be very dangerous."Marcus's mother said, frowning.

"Nonsense! He'll just go, take information from his older self, and come back in a day."

The next day was a Saturday. Marcus was ready to leave. His mother had been worried sick. She insisted on taking food and other luggage with him.

"Swallow this when you want to come back," said his father, giving him a tiny blue pill."Good luck!"

Marcus bid goodbye to his parents and stepped into the machine.

The next thing Marcus knew, He was facing the busy streets of London.

He turned around and saw a vast Mansion in front of him. He knocked on the door. A man in his forties opened the door. Marcus recognized him almost immediately, for he had black, curly hair and dark brown eyes, just like himself.

The older Marcus looked at the younger one for a while, confused, then said-

"You look just like me when I was younger, you know?"

"I am your younger self," Marcus explained hastily."I have come for information about the world in 2040, from the time machine mum and dad made."

"Oh! I wouldn't do that if I were you. Why don't you stay the night? I'll tell you everything tomorrow,"the older Marcus said.

"I don't see anything wrong with that" Marcus said, seeing a little of the sunset, through the pollution.

"Aaria! We have a guest tonight,"the older Marcus called.

Aaria, Marcus's most best friend in school, came out of the kitchen. She was now a tall and confident lady.

"Yes dear?"She had a small timid voice, not at all like it was when she was young.

"This is, uh- Mark. He is going to stay with us tonight."

The older Aaria was not at all like the younger one. She looked suspicious, but still let him in anyway.

Marcus slept like a log that night. He slept so soundly, that he did not notice somebody take something from his pocket.

Marcus woke up late next morning. He checked his pockets to find that the blue pill his dad gave him was missing.

He was very worried. He asked the couple about it.

It was as if something had snapped. They're eyes went red.

"You fool! You think we'd leave our very first prisoner? No we wouldn't! You'll stay here. There is no escape for you. Everybody in this Time-machine world is like us."The words were flooded out of Aaria's mouth so quickly, that Marcus felt quite dazed.
